Average number of zeros of characters of finite groups

چکیده

There has been some interest on how the average character degree affects structure of a finite group. We define, and denote by $ \mathrm{anz}(G) $, number zeros characters group G as in table divided irreducible $. show that if < 1 then is solvable also \frac{1}{2} supersolvable. characterise abelian groups showing \frac{1}{3} only abelian.

finite simple groups with number of zeros slightly greater than the number of nonlinear irreducible characters

the aim of this paper is to classify the finite simple groups with the number of zeros at most seven greater than the number of nonlinear irreducible characters in the character tables. we find that they are exactly a$_{5}$, l$_{2}(7)$ and a$_{6}$.

Zeros of Characters of Finite Groups

There are some variations of theorems A and B which are simply not true. For instance, if χ in Irr(G) has degree divisible by p, then there does not necessarily exist a p-element on which χ vanishes. It is enough to consider L2(11) with any character of degree 10 and p = 2. It is also not true that if χ vanishes on some element x, then χ has to vanish on some p-part of x. For instance, if G is ...

on translation of phatic communion and socio-cultural relationships between the characters of the novels

phatic communion is a cultural concept which differs across cultures. according to hofstede (2001), the u.s. tends to have individualistic culture; however, asian countries tend to have collectivistic cultures. these cultures view phatic communion differently. in individualistic cultures like u.s., phatic communion reflects speakers’ socio-cultural relationships in conversations. to see whether...

Characters of Finite Abelian Groups

Example 1.2. The trivial character of G is the homomorphism 1G defined by 1G(g) = 1 for all g ∈ G. Example 1.3. Let G be cyclic of order 4 with generator γ. Since γ4 = 1, a character χ of G has χ(γ)4 = 1, so χ takes only four possible values at γ, namely 1, −1, i, or −i. Once χ(γ) is known, the value of χ elsewhere is determined by multiplicativity: χ(γj) = χ(γ)j . So we get four characters, wh...

Characters of Finite Abelian Groups

When G has size n and g ∈ G, for any character χ of G we have χ(g)n = χ(gn) = χ(1) = 1, so the values of χ lie among the nth roots of unity in S1. More precisely, the order of χ(g) divides the order of g (which divides #G). Characters on finite abelian groups were first studied in number theory, since number theory is a source of many interesting finite abelian groups. For instance, Dirichlet u...
